"He who has the base necessities of life should pay nothing; taxation on him who has a surplus may, if need be, extend to everything beyond necessities." -- Jean Jacques Rousseau

What is this?

On the left is a mosaic of topographic maps depicting the three alternative routes that I-69 will take through Monroe County. The routes are labelled by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) as 3A, 3B, and 3C. You may click on any parcel of the map for a detail view of the selected area.

The I-69 corridor(s) are outlined in Yellow, Orange, and Purple. Purple depicts the approximately mile-wide corridor "study area." In this area INDOT surveyed homes, ecological features, environmental features, businesses, etc. You should consider anything OUTSIDE the purple lines as being "invisible" to INDOT for the purposes of I-69 planning.

The orange lines depict the 2000-foot wide I-69 corridor. The actual highway (which will require 400 feet of right-of-way) can be located anywhere within the orange lines. INDOT can locate the highway anywhere within the orange lines without having to re-do the environmental impact statement.

The yellow line depicts the nominal centerline of the highway.

Interestingly, the purple lines also correspond highly with the likely noise footprint of the interstate. SR37, which currently carries far less traffic than would I-69, has a noise footprint of (depending on terrain) between a half-mile and full mile.

If you have a high-speed connection, you may download the full Photoshop file (from which this mosaic was constructed) by clicking HERE CAUTION! This file is EXTREMELY large (140 mega-bytes). Even with a high-speed Internet cable modem the file will require ten minutes to download.

Special thanks to the folks at CARR who made and supplied to original topographic maps
